Passover and Travel
Picnic Lunch Albania A note about Jewish Travel. Visiting religious sites when you travel makes a difference in understanding history. Today is Passover, and The NY Times tells us that a Passover Service was held 5th century BC on Elephantine Island in the Nile, Egypt.
The Women’s Travel Group is multi-ethnic; however when we find a unique historical site of any religion we share it and try to add it to our trips. For those going to Greece with us end September, we contacted the Jewish Community for a Yom Kippur service.…

Food tastes better in Europe despite the fact that ingredients can be less plentiful than in the US. The Women’s Travel Group is sharing a way to bring one hearty London dish to your family before you take our Britain tour.…

Stuff from Women’s Travel Group Trips: video.
Video creation is new to most of us. In this post, Phyllis Stoller shares some treasures she brought back from The Women’s Travel Group trips. We are used to our phone cameras; but not to our video production. While at home and isolated, why not learn the art of video making. I am going to walk around my living room as a trial and talk about a few of the souvenirs brought home.
Each one has a memory I wish I had filmed.…

Travel Brochure Turn Off’s for Women
We love them but we hate them. Travel brochure photos tell a story about who is welcomed on the trip and who is not. A look at many brochure photos says this to women:
Don’t come alone. Dining photos show either couples, families or groupings of people who seem to know each other: toasting together or looking familiarly at one another. You don’t ever see a captain’s table with an empty seat not yet taken? In fact, you don’t see travelers shaking hands and meeting each other either.…

Do Not’s on Planes in Cold Weather
Here are some Do Not’s on Planes in Cold Weather. We suggest more comfort on planes in cold weather.
1–Do not sit next to the airplane window, unless you are wearing heavy socks. And if a long flight, consider compression socks.
2–Do not overdress, but layer with room in your carry on for the second layer you will take off (too easy to forget!) Note: you are more likely to lose clothing you take off if it is dark. Lighter and brighter items will show up on the seat or floor near your seat.… -
Women and Poor Travel Health Habits
We are not experts in travel health. However The Women’s Travel Group is a first-hand witness in how poorly women prepare for their travel health.
Packing and Shopping Excessively. Sure it feels good to have new travel clothes. Shopping tinge is a prelude to travel excitement. We say: avoid these splurges! New shoes are dangerous as you have not tested them on tired or swollen feet. New clothes take up the attention you should give to important documents and money.…

Best Global Shopping
India is the irresistible bargain basement: a $1 pen with rhinestones? $4 embroidered umbrella? 50c hand made paper? Cotton clothes for as little as $3? Herbal soaps and creams? Gems and pearls?
Morocco is a close second with fringed tribal rugs, silver, ceramics, leather and metal lamps. Bargaining is critical but if you love it buy it. If you purchase a carpet, get the vendor to pack it so you can put it on the plane. if leather goods, smell them for proper tanning. …

Shakespeare & Your Trip to Dubai
Many of you asked: Will Americans of Jewish Faith regret going to The Emirates and Oman? Here is the answer from Shakespeare:
Women Welcoming Oman Tourism Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows. The Tempest Act 2 Scene 2
Israel, Oman and The Emirates are close because of their mutual misery: Iran. The UAE has already built a synagogue and is planning another as part of an interfaith compound. On our last trip to the area, we saw many Israelis, both tourists and business people.…

Senior Women: the Outcasts of Travel Media
Face it Ladies, we are outcasts.
If you read travel press, you learn about soft cashmere travel blankets, fiddly electronic travel apps, and experiences to ‘find yourself’. There are daring itineraries for daredevil women, who wear Italian travel pants, and shoes our foot doctors would never recommend.
Why does the media ignore the real senior woman traveler?
Here are frank thoughts from The Women’s Travel Group:
- Many writers are young or think they are young.
