The Women’s Travel Group read that Statistics show the surge for travel slowing. If the slow down is due to news about passenger complaints, read here?

When some of us first traveled, this is what we did. We went to the airport in a dress, heels and stockings. Even gloves and hats.

Our suitcase was heavy. It had no wheels so we carried it yard by yard from the street to the check in area. Our carry-on was a regular hand bag, not a backpack/no Longchamps bags.

When we checked in, there was minimal security, no choice of seats but no TSA line either. Our only bag receipt was a paper tag from the airline.

In the airport waiting area, we sat down (3 hours minimum). There were no airport lounges such as we use now. The person next to us was chain smoking.

We boarded, our seat mate was chain-smoking… before take off and afterwards.

Our meal had no choices, no gluten free, no peanut allergy,  but no limit on alcohol either. That is if you were not flying over a dry state.

Flight attendants were chosen by looks and body type. They were usually more interested in serving business men. The only business travelers then were men.

On arrival, we had no way to notify family we were fine. No cell phones and international service was spotty and exorbitant.

Lets look at The Women’s Travel Group travelers today: We travel in leggings and sweats, suitcases roll along with our gait, carry on can be as big as your suitcase and weigh 6 lbs. We choose our seats/meals/lounge options. Flight attendants are picked for customer service and safety. We have 24/7 contact with family and friends in free airport wifi even texting on some planes. We can visit new areas: Central Asia? The Middle East? Former Soviet Europe? Easter Island and Zanzibar? The dollar is strong.

Planes are faster. Airports have burgers and burritos. Both planes and airports are distinctly safer
