Mexico City: Top NYTimes 2016 Destination Solo deal until 1/1/2017
The New York Times Travel Staff solicit pitches from travel writers in the US and overseas, to get to its short list of Top Destinations each year. In 2016 they chose Mexico City as the TOP DESTINATION for the following reasons:
A metropolis that has it all. Colorful culture with futuristic art and traditional murals side by side, Aztec history everywhere, unique architecture, great food, and bargains via a Peso that collapsed along with oil prices. Moreover, Mexico City has more and cheaper flights from North America than ever before including discounters SWAir, Jet Blue and Interjet.…

Traveling Alone: Don't be Ashamed
“I am going to try ‘alone’ travel” she said on the phone today. This is a comment we hear almost daily. It is often said with slight embarrassment or hesitation. Women are social animals. As such, we don’t like to admit our friends will not join our travels, or that we don’t even have traveling friends!
So what are the worst things that can happen on a tour. What can you do about it once you are launched.
- You don’t feel good on Day 1.

Lessons for Exotic Travel
Our
The Women’s Travel Group tour of 17 just returned from Ethiopia,an exotic trip we organize. We traveled from well developed Addis Ababa to remote Arba Minch. Here are some of the instructions which made our trip so successful.
Check altitude of the destination, so you are prepared/and or take it easy the first days. Addis is 8,000 ft.
Do not depend on weather history. Global changes are affecting travel. Normally cool Ethiopia was hotter due to El Nino this year.…

Tips for Winter Spa/Fitness Getaways
Tips for choosing a winter wellness week.
Ixtapan Spa will be your 2016 gift.
- Make sure your hotel includes fitness and/or spa treatments in prices. Do not be fooled by discounted room prices. Service charges on spa treatments are usually 20% on top of the price.
- Ask what is walkable from the hotel. Everyone wants to leave the confines of a resort, no matter how lovely, and many destination resorts are remotely situated.
- Shopping? Is there shopping near. Most hotels have ridiculously overpriced shops.

Why Hotel Rooms Frighten Women
On a first solo trip many of us are scared in the hotel room. The Women’s Travel Group (www.thewomenstravelgroup.com) hears that from its members. We might be veteran travelers, but we are not veteran single occupiers. Can we order room service and calmly open the door? Is the lock working? Who in the hotel knows we are alone? What if we get sick? If the alarm clock malfunctions? If we fall in the shower?…

Single Hotel Room Problems for Women
The big issue with single rooms on tours is the cost. European hotel charge by the room not by the person, making one in a room double price. Some solo women on The Women’s Travel Group trips complain about costs which hotels impose on us. We try to help solo travelers by arranging shares. On India we guarantee them by the way: Nov 11-22 still taking reservations.
Sharing a room can be comfortable. The biggest worry is female idea that we are ‘hostesses’ and need to be chatty when we want quiet time in the room. …
