• Travel Brochure Turn Off’s for Women

We love them but we hate them. Travel brochure photos tell a story about who is welcomed on the trip and who is not. A look at many brochure photos says this to women:

Don’t come alone. Dining photos show either couples, families or groupings of people who seem to know each other: toasting together or looking familiarly at one another. You don’t ever see a captain’s table with an empty seat not yet taken? In fact, you don’t see travelers shaking hands and meeting each other either.…

    Our Grandchildren: Afraid to Travel?

    Women's Travel Group in Egypt
    The Women’s Travel Group

Grandchildren are afraid to travel says The Women’s Travel Group. Headlines of airplane recycled air and cruise ship contamination scare them. Travelers are quarantined counting days, stuck overseas or feeling home lonely. How can we help our grandchildren to look forward to the adventures we have loved. And stay connected with them?

I have talked to my 12 year old darling granddaughter, about our traveling together one day. I send her photos and anecdotes when overseas and bring her and his sisters little gifts from unusual places.…

  • Do Not’s on Planes in Cold Weather

Here are some Do Not’s on Planes in Cold Weather. We suggest more comfort on planes in cold weather.

1–Do not sit next to the airplane window, unless you are wearing heavy socks. And if a long flight, consider compression socks.
2–Do not overdress, but layer with room in your carry on for the second layer you will take off (too easy to forget!) Note: you are more likely to lose clothing you take off if it is dark. Lighter and brighter items will show up on the seat or floor near your seat.…

  • Women and Poor Travel Health Habits

We are not experts in travel health. However The Women’s Travel Group is a first-hand witness in how poorly women prepare for their travel health.

Packing and Shopping Excessively. Sure it feels good to have new travel clothes. Shopping tinge is a prelude to travel excitement. We say: avoid these splurges! New shoes are dangerous as you have not tested them on tired or swollen feet. New clothes take up the attention you should give to important documents and money.…

  • Horror: The Airplane Bathrooms

    Horror: The Airplane Bathrooms

No one likes to talk about horror of airplane bathrooms. Today that is one of the most talked about horrors. The airplane bathrooms are small and according to Bloomberg, they are getting smaller.  They feel airless. They are dirty after a long flight.  Soap, toilet paper and even water can be gone.  Some are so small that disabled women or larger women cannot use them. On some American flights, says Bloomberg, the bathroom is only 22.1 inches across at the passenger’s chest level when seated. .…

Something free from airlines? Good for country counters.

A glass of wine and new friends.

This week I attended a meeting promoting Abu Dhabi and its incredible 2020 World’s Fair. A presentation by the national airline, Etihad, included a goodie you should know about. Etihad offers free stopovers.   Are you shocked at something free from an airline? Do you know what a stopover is?

A free stopover means you can stay in a place on your route, for 24 hours minimum + up to a specific number of days.…

    How Boomer Women Travel

This post is reprinted from Boomer Travel Patrol a fun site for all of you out there.

Boomer Women Want More from Travel

We are the first generation women who studied abroad, joined the Peace  Corps, traveled internationally for work and, like myself, lived abroad. These experiences made us different travelers. Our mothers would be both scared for us and proud.

Boomers expect to see icons: Ponte Vecchio, Eiffel Tower, Vatican.  But we welcome insights even prickly or dark ones.

  • Best Global Shopping

India is the irresistible bargain basement: a $1 pen with rhinestones? $4 embroidered umbrella? 50c hand made paper? Cotton clothes for as little as $3? Herbal soaps and creams? Gems and pearls?

Morocco is a close second with fringed tribal rugs, silver, ceramics, leather and metal lamps. Bargaining is critical but if you love it buy it. If you purchase a carpet, get the vendor to pack it so you can put it on the plane. if leather goods, smell them for proper tanning. …
