Horror: The Airplane Bathrooms
No one likes to talk about horror of airplane bathrooms. Today that is one of the most talked about horrors. The airplane bathrooms are small and according to Bloomberg, they are getting smaller. They feel airless. They are dirty after a long flight. Soap, toilet paper and even water can be gone. Some are so small that disabled women or larger women cannot use them. On some American flights, says Bloomberg, the bathroom is only 22.1 inches across at the passenger’s chest level when seated. .…

Something free from airlines? Good for country counters.
A glass of wine and new friends. This week I attended a meeting promoting Abu Dhabi and its incredible 2020 World’s Fair. A presentation by the national airline, Etihad, included a goodie you should know about. Etihad offers free stopovers. Are you shocked at something free from an airline? Do you know what a stopover is?
A free stopover means you can stay in a place on your route, for 24 hours minimum + up to a specific number of days.…

How Boomer Women Travel
This post is reprinted from Boomer Travel Patrol a fun site for all of you out there.
Boomer Women Want More from Travel
We are the first generation women who studied abroad, joined the Peace Corps, traveled internationally for work and, like myself, lived abroad. These experiences made us different travelers. Our mothers would be both scared for us and proud.
Boomers expect to see icons: Ponte Vecchio, Eiffel Tower, Vatican. But we welcome insights even prickly or dark ones.… -
Best Global Shopping
India is the irresistible bargain basement: a $1 pen with rhinestones? $4 embroidered umbrella? 50c hand made paper? Cotton clothes for as little as $3? Herbal soaps and creams? Gems and pearls?
Morocco is a close second with fringed tribal rugs, silver, ceramics, leather and metal lamps. Bargaining is critical but if you love it buy it. If you purchase a carpet, get the vendor to pack it so you can put it on the plane. if leather goods, smell them for proper tanning. …

The Good and Bad of Italian Street Food
Yes real WTGroup gelato hands Pizza, arancini, pastries, gelato, and its slushy cousin granita..… this is Sicilian street food you will find on our Sicily Malta Trip.
In Sicily (March 2019 trip), pizza has a thicker crust, focaccia-like. In some areas, pizza has a top crust also-who doesn’t love double carbs? The good news is if you cannot eat cheese, Sicilians also make pizza without it. The bad news is in some areas it is fried and you will absolutely have to try it!…

Senior Women: the Outcasts of Travel Media
Face it Ladies, we are outcasts.
If you read travel press, you learn about soft cashmere travel blankets, fiddly electronic travel apps, and experiences to ‘find yourself’. There are daring itineraries for daredevil women, who wear Italian travel pants, and shoes our foot doctors would never recommend.

Here are frank thoughts from The Women’s Travel Group:
- Many writers are young or think they are young.

How To Travel and Not be a Wreck
One of our Sicily Groups overlooking Mt. Etna Rest up two weeks before your trip. Do not leave a wreck.
Pack only essentials. Leave home any item you love. Not worrying about losing or leaving possessions is a relief.
Get to the airport extra early; find a quiet seat even if not at your gate. Regroup with a book or game.
On the plane, do some stretching. What better an airline than Qantas to recommend: https://www.qantas.com/us/en/travel-info/travel-advice/your-health-inflight.html
At the hotel, again do simple stretches and walk around the hotel area to wake yourself up.…
