Music Application for Traveling
Staying in a hotel room can be isolating; try Songza. This is a free application for a smart phone. Songza has all kinds of free music and it categorizes it by genre and by what you are doing. So for instance, classical music for reading brought up YoYo Mah playing a lovely cello piece. Music makes a room away from home feel warmer and friendlier.

To Walk or Not To Walk, that is the travel question
How much walking do our trips have? Can anyone participate in Argentina or others?
Most www.womenstravelgroup.com trips include some walking, but women should ask the following questions when they eye a trip:
1. How much in length and/or time? A slow walk over a short distance like in a walking tour might be hard on the back also. While we are walking, feel free to ask for a place to sit or a minute if you need to regroup or retie your laces or your brain.…

How To Complain
We inspect all our hotels but if you go on a trip and are unhappy, here is how we suggest you complain:
1. Get an authority figure from the hotel, not the desk clerk, and if need be wait there until someone shows.
2. Get their card and make sure they are in fact a manager.
3. Ask them to sit down away from the desk, which makes you an equal and makes this a business meeting.
4. Describe your issue, enhance with photos you took or timing you noted ( like a pillow from housekeeping took from 8:30 PM until 9:11 PM, the detail is convincing.… -
Early Bird 5% off on Thanksgiving/Christmas Mkts. river cruise!
5% EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT ON THIS CRUISE; NOT A TURKEY BUT A SAVINGS.
We have chosen a luxury river cruise for Thanksgiving for The Women’s Travel Group. We like the itinerary, the deluxe amenities and the food we do not have to cook. Here are general reasons why a river cruise works for women:
1. River cruises are more intimate, with smaller numbers of guests.
2. The boats dock in towns, so you are not a ‘prisoner’ on board and your stroll is not limited to a deck.… -

Airline Taxes and More
Today Joe Sharkey of The Times discusses the rise in airline taxes. He mentions the cost of jet fuel, almost 50% up since January 2010. Another contributor is the lower dollar: as the dollar drops, taxes in foreign currencies rise. For instance, lets assume that your ticket to London includes a British airport security or construction tax in Pounds. If the dollar falls, and the Pound rises, your taxes will rise and so will the cost of your all in ticket.…

Carnival Cruise Apology
When your trip goes awry like it did with Carnival’s cruise, you lose more than money. You lose your allotted vacation time for this year. Admittedly I have no marine experience, but here are the things I would have been wondering had I been a passenger:
The map shows they were nearer Cozumel than Mobile. And the drift was away from Mobile and towards Cozumel. Could Carnival have dug deeply into financial pockets and leased 15 planes at 200+ passengers each, flown them out of Cozumel and cut 2 days off this miserable experience?…

Travel Tip: Airplane Pillows
Hate those pillows but need some support. Bring your own pillow case, and stuff it with your coat or sweater or something in your carry on. Or buy yourself a very light and squishable pillow: LL Bean sells one with plaid upside and grey downside. But buy a bright color so you do not leave it on the seat on departure.
This is even more important now that passengers want clean and sanitzed airplane items. For a full list of what we suggest you pack, contact us here:…

Travel Tips for Women for a Snowy Vacation
Whether or not you have bought Travel Insurance from us, here are five reminders before you travel during snowy weather.
1. Shower cap to wear under your knitted hat.
2. Clip Chip to hang wet socks up, hopefully above the hotel heater.
3. Plastic bags to hold wet shoes and sturdy shoes are a must.
4. Big (not wool) scarf to lend a second cover over your shoulders and coat. Wool dries slowly and smells too sheepy.
5. An alarm clock set extra early so you do not rush.…
