Guide to Dining Overseas
How not to be a Dining Dufus.
The most awkward meal ever. The dinner was in Munich Germany; I could not read German but did know the word for ‘dumpling’: knodel (with accent marks). Who doesn’t love dumplings? I ordered knodel. Time passed, the waiter brought 2 grapefruit sized beige balls. I started uncontrollably laughing; German diners looked at me with shock. Clearly I did not know German knodel.
We were 3 ladies on a Women’s Travel Group tour. In the Tokyo Airport, we noticed a couple enjoying what looked like delicious pasta.…

Travel will help you lose weight.
Travel will help you lose weight. Look at the bathroom scale and scream. Most of us cooked and ate a mountain of food since March 2020. We now begin to plan travel for 2021. There is a nasty realization that our travel clothes are tight or worse: do not fit.
It is a mystery, but most women lose weight when traveling. Even when in gastronomic Paris or carb-laden Florence, we drop pounds. The first reason is we walk.…

Can You Diet on Vacation?
Food is an essential part of travel and The Women’s Travel Group likes to eat on our trips. But can you refrain from a feeding frenzy when traveling?
Try to eat a hearty meal before you go to the airport so you don’t blow your diet on terra firma. That means, you do not empty all the good food from your pre-trip refrigerator-you might even plan a nice going away meal for yourself. Airplane meals are loaded with salt and sugar, so here you can eliminate some of this by pre-ordering a low salt low sugar meal.…

Tips for Winter Spa/Fitness Getaways
Tips for choosing a winter wellness week.
Ixtapan Spa will be your 2016 gift.
- Make sure your hotel includes fitness and/or spa treatments in prices. Do not be fooled by discounted room prices. Service charges on spa treatments are usually 20% on top of the price.
- Ask what is walkable from the hotel. Everyone wants to leave the confines of a resort, no matter how lovely, and many destination resorts are remotely situated.
- Shopping? Is there shopping near. Most hotels have ridiculously overpriced shops.

Too Nervous to Travel?
Can travel be fun for Nervous Nellies? Yes for some. No for others. Let’s face it, some women just do better in their environment and home. Others yearn to travel but are scared of flying? Being a solo but in a group? Not being understood? Concerned about jet lag? About unusual food? and Yes about toilet access.
Food and toilets are specifically women’s concerns. Food worries us since we are diet conscious and these days have more allergies: gluten, sugar, seeds, eggs, peanuts… Asking for a specific diet is as easy as forewarning our staff at The Women’s Travel Group.…

Gluten Free Diets Overseas
What country comes to mind regarding major gluten ingestion? Italy of course. Our group of 21 just returned from a thrilling trip around Sicily. Sicily touring in December is off season but our temperatures were mainly 55-70 during the day and only one day of intermittent rain. There were no other tourists which you can see from this photo of the Greco-Roman temple at Segresta, Sicily.
Several of the women, including our guide, Virginia, were gluten intolerant.…
