Hating Fellow Travelers
Summer brings heat, humidity, thunderstorms, and delays. I hate everyone within two feet of me, under those circumstances, even more so, in a crowded airport with pesky passengers.
Create your own “dome” with a– good junk book preferably paperback so you can toss it after the flight. b– your own bottles of water even at crazy prices paid in airports c– some nibbles that are half healthful half naughty (Trader Joe’s trail mixes are full of good and bad ingredients) d- clothes with easy slip-on slip-off shoes and minimum zippers (give in to elastic waistbands here), e- an attitude that allows those in more discomfort to go ahead of you.…

Turkey Travel Safety now Cancellations for Brazil?
Twitter and social media are spurring riots in both countries. Should you cancel your trips? Let’s assume you are NOT getting your money back from your travel vendor.
We have talked about this before. First, make sure the rioting is exactly where you are going. If so, is it in one neighborhood or city-wide?
Are airlines canceling flights there? Does your hotel website have a notice about problems?
In some cases, riots are limited to university areas, so avoid them when you book your hotel in fragile places.…

Horrible Hotel Amenities?
Even if you do not use the products, take hotel amenity bottles home. Why?
They have measurements on the labels showing their liquid content. You can refill them with your own products, in order to pass TSA liquid carry on security standards. If you are taking a quick weekend trip, say over July 4, you might want to go carry on. An obstacle might be the size of your personal products. Most plastic bottles sold as ‘travel kits’ have no labels and will NOT work for carrying on even if tiny.…

Are Women 'Travel Victims'?
News about crime abroad seems to focus on women. Though rape in India is less frequent than in most developed countries, the press covers it disproportionately. The latest article about an unfortunate American woman in India, who was raped, includes that she got into a truck with three strange men. Obviously she did not deserve to be raped or hurt anyway, but would you get into a truck with strangers of any type and anywhere?
My issue with the coverage is that the media uses her case to publish endless articles about women and safety, describing us victims.…

Don't Let Rain Spoil Your Women's Travel Group Trip
Traveling in the rain does not ruin your trip. Besides bringing a teeny umbrella, here a few ways not to ruin a rain day. Toss a baseball cap into your luggage and wear a light shower cap under it for drizzle. Invest in a Gap type hooded rain parka-unlined- or a Gortex golf jacket. In worst cases use a Hefty Bag for heavy downpours that are unavoidable. Cut out an arm and head holes and protect part of your body/clothes. Yes, you will look dumb but who’s looking?…

Why you still see The Women's Travel Club on line
We have tried to notify each site that mentions our old company to update their records. It is quite amazing how many of these sites are not monitored by humans who keep their copy clean. Anyway, if you know of other former member of WTC, please spread the word that we are organizing the great trips we used to do for all those happy years. Our site is www.thewomenstravelgroup.com.
Anyone who used to be a member, gets a $100 gift when they book Argentina.…

Choose a Travel Guide in 2 Minutes
—-Check the publication date; the information inside will be a year older than that date.
—-See who wrote the book: some guides written by locals deliberately omit great places (we did when I worked on guides abroad, as who wants a bunch of tourists in their special restaurants.)
—-Check if the book has information on women travelers: Lonely Planet has a section on issues for women
—-What is the budget level of the restaurants and hotels?… -
Why I Still Use Tripadvisor & Like It
If you have any brains, you can tell when someone is a fake reviewer on TripAdvisor. Similar to email spam, fake reviews have misspellings and inaccuracies. Like the person talks about a family vacation but their profile is a solo travler. Duh
In any case, you can contact reviewers via the site. I have found that the few bad reviews I have read about one hotel I follow, have reviewers who never answer your outreach to them. It is almost as if negative reviewers are happy to blast a hotel or service then hide when you need more information.…

Theft on Airplanes Strikes Women
Theft on planes remains an issue. Women, especially, are the victims. We think that carry on is the be all and end all. We trust passengers merely because they could afford a ticket. Finally we feel ‘safe; in the confines of a plane’s cabin. Theft on airplanes is fairly common. Most companies do not cover you for theft in the airplane cabin.
Some mistakes women make are here in no particular order.
Women experience theft on airplanes, because they leave their valuables near their seats, even when they leave the seat.…
