I have a great new mirror. It is a high magnification mirror as a gift for a woman traveler. It is bigger than compact size and not hand held. It is fragile and could break into sharp pieces? (Hopefully not). Can I carry it on the plane? The real life answer will come in 3 weeks when I fly. The mirror will be packed carefully in carry on luggage. Cliff hanger result to be continued….
The official TSA answer is yes a mirror can be carried on the plane. The caveat is it cannot have a sharp handle or any protruding pointy sides. The mirror has to be within the baggage sizes allowed. (Length, width and height must not total more than 45 inches. Some airlines differ).
There are some surprising items women carry on which can be inspected. Jewelry with pointy edges like a star brooch. (Yes I had one removed and inspected by TSA. It was a red enameled costume piece from a UK shop in the shape of a star. )
Can you carry scissors including manicure ones? Allowable scissors must be less than 4 inches long from ‘the pivot point’. PS the pivot point which I had to look up also, is where the scissors are joined by a ‘pin’. Who knew this article would become a vocabulary lesson? A slight miscalculation can cost you your expensive German scissors
(I still do not dare to carry on the multi tool Swiss Card just to avoid losing it.)
You cannot carry CO2 cartridges unless for a medical reason. Check with the airline asap.
Yes you can carry the CPAP machine but with only 3.4 oz of distilled water.
Liquid make up, hair spray, gel, foundation all to must be less than 3.4 oz. All must fit in a quart size plastic bag. Don’t worry we’ll all look awful anyway.
Freezer pack (Are you dining on smoked salmon mid Atlantic?) must be frozen during screening or less than 3.4 oz when defrosted.
No razor blades, pack them or be hairy.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 not allowed anywhere on the plane
So if bringing exploding British Christmas crackers, a Magic 8 Ball or snow scene paper weight, and self defense spray, you are not carrying on your luggage for sure.
