My mother walked me across the street to the facade of Public School 9. A stranger directed first graders to a classroom, full of mysterious things. We sat in wooden seats with an attached pull up desk top. I was 5 and terrified and promptly pee’d in my pants.
I recall that moment and the extreme relief at going home for lunch. Day two in First Grade was different and wonderful; we learned our first ABC’s.
Thanksgiving is around the corner. So you are not electronically savvy but need to learn if you are going on our single special river cruise in July? Bribe your grandchildren at turkey time, and upgrade your travel app skills.
There are a few bits to learn, that is if you intend to travel and have a smart phone.

And should women be so wardrobe obsessed? Will I fit in? Will I be respected? Going to fashionable Paris, will I be a dork? This blog post changed directions after a visit to Chase Bank last week. Apologies up front for being personal.
Rates are good so I dropped by Chase with my husband. He came along only because I wanted a CD in joint names. I usually work with one banker. He invited a financial adviser to join us.…

Here are some of the most engaging street markets in Paris; we walk by some on our trip. Some are food with mountains of cheeses and breads, some are herbal with soaps and personal products, some sell objects and antiques. We only listed those which are easy to locate during our November Paris week. Look down each street and alley, you will find others.
The other day a woman called The Women’s Travel Group about our November trip to Paris. After asking about the trip, she announced she had lived in Paris, knew it well and did not need a group tour. Why she called? Who knows. But bottom line, there are reasons for her to join the trip.

There is more Americanism in Paris than a dancing Gene Kelly. On our November trip we pass many connections to our history. Street names emphasize our mutual friendship dating from before the American Revolution and continuing today: Rue Benjamin Franklin, Avenue Franklin, Avenue du President Kennedy.
Famous Pyramid Louvre, designed by America I. M Pei.
George Washington is honored with monuments in Paris. One is in Place d’Iéna which runs into the famous Arch de Triple we will pass.…
Today I started packing for Europe: specifically England, Italy and Switzerland. Although packing is no big deal for me, many women asked for my ‘system’. There are no fancy gadgets, no newly acquired clothes. There is no $1,000 cashmere scarf, which travel magazine writers tout as an airplane coverup.
Here goes THE SYSTEM.
Start at the bottom of your body, literally.
Shoes: 2 pairs only, sneakers with which your feet are old friends AND one pair of light weight flats. Mine are black Allbirds.
Some of us cringe when landing. Some are glued to the window. Others realize they should have used the bathroom. Here are some magnificent views to enjoy as your plane descends.
