There are new regulations and there are new headlines. Two girls were turned away from a United flight, wearing leggings. They were traveling on airline passes, as a relative worked for United. Airlines have strict dress codes for passengers on free tickets and leggings are definitely not allowed. This is a fake story. Read before you panic.
Another new regulation is that all electronics (except phones and medical devices) must be packed,if you are flying from 8 airports in the Middle East on airlines which fly direct to the US. You should be aware that simultaneously, there is an airline non-security fight going on, that might be connected to this new rule. Eithad, Emirates and others had planned to add more direct flights to the US from overseas. Our airlines are pressuring the government not to allow these routes which are permitted by Treaty. The result of the security measure is to force business people onto mostly US and European carriers.
Bottom line: disregard the leggings story; it is stupid and misleading. If you are flying from Cairo; Istanbul; Kuwait City; Doha, Qatar; Casablanca, Morocco; Amman, Jordan; Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and Dubai and Abu Dhabi direct to the US, you need to lock up devices in your suitcase. Or use a service like Fedex or DSL to send them home. Then you need to buy a book, remember those hard rectangular things? PS your devices will be covered by our travel insurance.
