Who (of a certain age) does not use car services? They can be cheaper than taxis, are scheduled, and generally women feel safer. Price is known up front. Tips as well. What happens if you are overseas and need a service? Here is personal experience to date from The Women’s Travel Group.
Uber operates in many countries. You use the same app as on a US mobile phone.For Uber and other services, follow these rules.
—Check that the embedded or used credit card can be used out of the country. Amex is not popular. The Uber credit card was discontinued.
—Make sure your mobile phone works abroad! Most services add an automatic +1 to US numbers. If yours does not, add it now.
—Know the exact address of where you are and where you are going. Just a hotel or store name might now work.
—You need to put on your phone’s location services.
— Get the country code and city code of where you are ahead of time. ie London 011 is overseas, 44 is Britain then city code.
Remember:
—Uber drivers might not know the intricate European streets as well as local drivers. Leave time to get to your destination.
—Instructions will be in English. The driver might not speak English but knows the address you are going to. He/she should know approximate driving time.
Uber is available in 500 airports globally. If you try your Uber app in country x and it doesn’t work Uber is not available there. Sixt is a taxi type service one sees in European Cities. Do not confuse it with their car rental company. With Sixt, you go on line or use the app, enter your to/from address and quickly you get a price. It is generally less than a taxi.
Some travel sites: www.booking.com and www.expedia.com also offer car services on line. You have to put exact addresses, not just a store to hotel name so be prepared.

When in doubt, a good hotel Front Desk will share the name of a trusted car service. I prefer to have a service which also has an on line presence.
