Some of us cringe when landing. Some are glued to the window. Others realize they should have used the bathroom. Here are some magnificent views to enjoy as your plane descends.
Paris. Landing in Paris is beyond gorgeous. From the air, Paris has an unmatched elegance. Domes like that of Sacre Coeur and Napoleon’s Tomb/Les Invalides are easy to site (photo left is from Wikipedia). Churches like Notre Dame and Saint Sulpice might be visible.. Boulevards criss cross star shape from the Etoile (star in French) . There is only one more beautiful way to see Paris, and that is from terra firmer.
London. The coast line is glorious. Some early AM flights skirt the SW coast. See the blue of the Channel, the jagged Channel coast and yellow green quilt of Cornish farmland. Later flights circle London then follow the Thames River to Heathrow. Along the river, you might catch the Tower of London, Big Ben, and gigantic carrousel, London Eye.
Basel, Switzerland is on the Rhine River next to France and Germany. Landing in Basel you see heavy forests, pristine lakes and, of course, the mighty Rhine. Basel projects medieval churches with high steeples along the river.
Landing in Uzbekistan is a different experience: vaste empty spaces then industrial parks. Don’t be fooled, once you enter Uzbekistan’s towns, you are in a movie of magnificent mosques, grand squares, ancient markets. Here is where East meets West. Kyrgystan is more remote; if you are lucky, catch views of the impressive 24,000+ ft. Tian Shan Mountains. Kyrgyzstan is considered to be the most popular new area for tourism. Go now. PS there is a movement there to empower women.
Saudi Arabia. Landing near the coast, you get sand and deep blue sea. Landing inland, you see the Empty Quarter’s rolling desert, plus the ancient roads cutting it. Some of the newer planes used in this area have underneath cameras so you can watch the earth from your plane. Easter Island, defies description.
