I remember my first travel group 31 years ago. At the farewell dinner, one woman excitedly asked: Where are we going next year? That was the beginning of 30 years of group trips for women.
You too can organize a private travel group and get free travel. There are rules and a bit of work. We help with rules and do most of the work.
Your role is to talk to friends and friends of friends about the proposed trip. With 10+ you or 15+ you are good to go. Here are examples of private groups we helped. Gardens trip for artists who paint botanicals? Florida based hispanic women? Clients of a banker? Principals from Philadelphia high schools?
Here is your to-do list:
Identify personal affiliations. Examples: churches, clubs, book groups, garden groups, political groups, widows/divorcee/singles groups, gym pals, adult ed classes. Groups travel for a variety of reasons: a retreat? charity raising money? class enhancing the curriculum? fitness group to a spa? Alcohol Anonymous Meeting?
People love to talk about travel, your job is to remember general information. Where did people go on their last 2 trips? What was the budget? Why did they go and what did they like? Gently ask about physical levels. (Don’t forget the singles who might feel left out when you talk travel).
Create your list: include email/phone number/ cell number. Ask for contacts of friends of friends. Do not forget those who only text or only use the phone. Don’t give up on nervous prospects,they might need a personal phone call or extra TLC.
We price the trip for you, based on the number going and what you want included. Now your choice: mark it up, donate the profit, or put it towards your place. Don’t mark it up. Just ask for a free spot for someone?
Start with places with direct flights. In my first group trip, everyone came from Miami, until two signed up from Brazil!. Be ready for surprises. Single city stays are ideal; two cities with ground transportation between is easy. River cruises are a synch but need early booking.
If this is your first group, include a tour manager to assure your trip goes smoothly.
