We recently received a call from a the woman said: I have not traveled since my husband died and I think it is time to GET BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN. Her reference to the vintage Gene Autry song had us hunting on utube, to hear him sing. We realized that her reference meant something only to women of a certain age.  Autry appeared in 93 films, and between 1950 and 1956 hosted The Gene Autry Show television series. We, of that age, remember him from his Christmas songs and his straight shooting brave and honest roles.

What does Gene Autry have to do with travel? Well nothing except its time to start a new chapter. And time to GET BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN.  We understand the pangs of a first solo trip.

Here are some moments we know might worry you:

Booking the trip with a booking form that shouts you are a solo traveler.

Carrying  all of the money, credit cards and other essentials yourself.

Getting on a plane without your partner to help with bags or just to share the arm rest with.

Arriving to meet up with a group of strangers, all of whom might pry and ask you why you are alone.

Tipping without guidance from your partner; tipping is a really high hurdle for women.

Alone in a hotel room?

Room service with no one between you and a waiter.

Learning your smart phone and dealing with a phone complication without the usual back up.

Experiences you enjoy that your partner would have loved.

Pleasant memories that come home with you but do not continue in conversations.

Can you GET BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN?

Over 26 years, many women have thrown their leg over that horse, and little by little enjoyed the saddle. They grew muscles, they became confident and to use the metaphor again: they began to love the thrill of the gallup and the destination at the end.
